Mia Mitchell Grandpre

Mia Mitchell Grandpre is a litigator with experience in intellectual property infringement, consumer financial services, and corporate securities matters. She also helps businesses and content creators protect their intellectual property by securing and enforcing their intellectual property rights and advising on transactional opportunities. Additionally, Mia has corporate compliance experience managing regulatory investigations, including responding to Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) investigations.

 

Mia is a 2010 graduate of Howard University School of Law, where she served as an Editor of the Howard Law Journal. She also served as president of Howard’s Intellectual Property Students’ Association. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from Stanford University. She is also a graduate of the Cate School in Carpinteria, California. Mia is barred in Louisiana (2010) and California (2016).

 

Mia has served as Corporate Counsel to Webpush Securities, a full-service brokerage firm in the Greater Los Angeles area. There she managed commercial litigation matters in a wide range of legal matters including employment, vendor, and customer disputes. A highlight from her time there included a 2nd chaired employment arbitration matter demanding $1,000,000+ in compensatory damages, punitive damages, attorney’s fees and pre- and post-award interest. The team achieved a highly favorable arbitration award. She also negotiated a settlement of regulatory matter against company and employee resulting in a reduced fine for the company and no suspension for the employee.

 

As an associate attorney with Jones Walker LLP in New Orleans, Mia gained litigation experience including representing national corporations and regional corporations in state and federal litigation proceedings. Specifically, she conducted initial case evaluations and established litigation goals; drafting settlement agreements; preparing pleadings and motions, and planning and executing discovery plans. Her emphasis was in the areas of consumer financial services, mortgage-related disputes, business contract disputes, intellectual property infringement (copyright and trademark), and unfair competition disputes. Mia’s Intellectual Property prosecution experience included conducting trademark searches, drafting trademark clearance opinions, preparing and filing trademark registration applications, responding to U.S. Patent and Trademark Office actions, and preparing and filing copyright registration applications. She also gained transactional experience drafting copyright licensing agreements and pre-execution review of talent agency agreement.

 

Mia spent a short stint in Washington D.C. where she was a legal extern researching music and performance industry copyright issues at the Future of Music Coalition. She researched copyright issues pertinent to musicians and performers, including the legal impact of all-inclusive (360 Deals) recording contracts and termination rights in certain joint-ownership or work-for-hire situations.

 

Mia was also the sales director with BUA, Inc. leading sales and marketing operations for a fine art painter and helped maximize revenue from copyrights in artwork through gallery agreements and licensing agreements. She grew revenue by over 200% within 9 months by building wholesale demand, increased demand of original artwork by marketing to celebrity and art influencer markets, enforced copyrights in artwork by working with attorneys to investigate and pursue infringement actions.
